DAILY TRIP CONTENT

CORE CHARACTERISTICS OF A DISCIPLE MAKER

DAY 1 – A Disciple Maker is Wholly Surrendered: The hallmark of every true disciple maker is a life wholly surrendered to the will of God. This day’s teaching informs students they were created by God for a specific purpose. Students will understand that before a disciple maker can bear fruit, God calls us to wholly surrender our life plans and goals to Him; to fulfill His desire in our life.

DAY 2 – A Disciple Maker is Biblically Motivated: The act of making disciples should never be motivated by our selfish desires for personal gain, but rather our motivation should flow from our comprehension of God’s mercy and justice. The gospel and understanding the good news should motivate us to spend the rest of our lives declaring and demonstrating His ongoing mercy to those in our lives.

DAY 3 – A Disciple Maker is Divinely Empowered: God’s task given to every disciple maker to multiply their faith and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19), is utterly impossible to fulfill on our own. Students will learn God has fully and divinely empowered them to fulfill this work. Scripture teaches us that the presence of Jesus is with us every step of the way, and that the power of the Holy Spirit lives within every disciple, giving us everything needed to fulfill this commission.

DAY 4 – A Disciple Maker is Never Finished: There will never be a point in a disciple maker’s life where they will attain a complete knowledge of God. The passion of a disciple maker is marked by their endless pursuit to become more like the person of Jesus in their everyday life. Our hope is for your students to realize that the end of the week is only the beginning of their lives as disciple makers.

DAILY TRIP STRUCTURE

We have strategically designed each day to create an environment in which your students will get the most out of their experience. Through this intentional process, students will move past merely receiving instruction in Session 1, but will take this information and make it practical is Session 2, and finish by making it personal in Session 3.

Explore (Morning)

Each day of training will begin by diving into challenging content designed to teach your students core characteristics of a disciple maker. A foundation for the day will be laid through a thought-provoking message, discussion, and study.

Thought-Provoking Teaching

  • Original Francis Chan video teachings created to explore the attributes of God.
  • Follow up discussion that encourages students to dig deeper into the content.
  • Challenging questions for students to apply to their daily walk with Christ.

This teaching by Francis Chan has been created in a way that will challenge the way your students view God. We firmly believe a greater understanding of God should inform how we live each day with gospel intentionality.

Student-Led Bible Study

  • Students will explore God’s attributes in scripture.
  • With the guidance of our trained staff, students will have the opportunity to lead a Bible study for their peers each day.
  • Students will be equipped with tools to study the Bible more effectively.

After hearing from Francis, students will have the opportunity explore for themselves what the Bible says about God’s attributes. Students will be equipped with tools to help them study scripture on their own and will have the opportunity to facilitate a study in order to gain confidence to continue to do so when they return home.

We believe engaging with the content in an experiential way is what will cause students to more deeply understand what they are learning. These activities provide students a safe place to try and experience what they are wrestling through intellectually.

Not only do we want your students to walk away from the week equipped as disciples of Jesus, but to also become a more unified group. To do this, we have designed strategic activities that will challenge your students to work together while learning valuable leadership lessons.

FAQS

Each week-long experience is designed to challenge high school and college-aged students in a variety of stages in their faith journey. From the teen on your leadership team that’s looking to better equip themselves to make disciples, to the student who is young in their faith and wants to know more about what it looks like to live out their faith, the teaching and experiences on this trip provide the opportunity for each individual to take the next step in their faith journey.
Next Step Ministries and Crazy Love Ministries work together to determine content that challenges each student’s current view of God, informs them of the way Jesus lived his life, and instructs students how to mimic His life in their own. After this week, the goal is for each student to walk away with a better understanding of how to make disciples and the role they play in the Great Commission.
