In the largest geographical state in the country, there are few places where Christians can go to grow in their faith and be trained to spread the gospel to the hundreds of Native American villages throughout the state. There are also few places where children can go for spiritual support and guidance. It is the vision of former Native American Chief Will Mayo and his wife Yvonne to create a place where both can be accomplished in the future; it is our dream to help him create that place today.

Next Step Ministries began working with Will and Yvonne in 2005 when God called us to support their vision to build the Bear Spear School and Retreat Center – a facility to train missionaries and disciple children.

Last summer our crews put the finishing touches on a beautiful ministry center and cabin home for Will and Yvonne on the property. They also began construction on a prayer cabin and bunk cabin for the ministry.

This summer students will be helping to construct the prayer cabin, multiple bunk cabins and begin clearing for the worship center. The work in Alaska is like no other you will find; challenging building, surrounded by some of the most breath-taking views of God’s creation.

During the free day, students will have the chance to visit Denali National Park and can hike along the foothills of mountains or raft down a powerful white-rapid river.

Every summer students leave Alaska inspired by the discipleship from Will and Yvonne and touched by the loving culture of the Alaskan people. This mission trip gives students the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in the Fairbanks Community and experience the beautiful wilderness of Alaska.
