Don't be a Poser

Revelations 3:16
"But since you are lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!"

This verse comes from a letter to the Church of Laodicea where the church was not living the Christian life that they claimed. Still today our world is full of posers and I’m no exception. I always wanted to learn to play bass so my Dad got one for me. I probably touched it three times over course of the first couple years I had it. I didn’t really have a clue about how to actually play it but that didn’t stop me from saying I was a bass player. When I got a chance to play with a band I had no clue what to do. We have to make sure that when we call ourselves Christian that we’re not being posers. That we don’t just call ourselves Christian but actually live out our faith.

Reflection

1. What does it mean for us to be lukewarm water?
2. What kind of life style are we told to avoid.
3. How can we live out our faith whole heartedly?

Take the Next Step
Christ calls us to true commitment in living the Christian life. If we call ourselves Christian and go to church on Sunday and youth group, etc., yet go to school or in nonchurch social situations we go on living a worldly lifestyle (e.g. partying, doing drugs, lying, cheating, etc.), then the world sees us as nothing better than a poser! Christ wants nothing to do with posers, but rather calls us to a real and loving relationship with himself. Real Christianity takes real commitment and passion. God doesn’t want someone posing as if they love Him, rather he wants us to actually love him.
