Hearing and Obeying
Week 12 Day 4
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)
‘Go’ is the first command in the Great Commission that Jesus gives his followers after his life with them. Jesus spoke, taught, and fellowshipped with them and then he was finally saying Go! So it is when Jesus speaks to you. Brother Lawerence says “Be listening and Doing always.” It is not enough to simply hear, in fact that is pretty pointless. God desires doers.
As we look at the book of Samuel and the Psalms and learn about David, we see an example of an awesome doer. David every day desired God’s word so the he could say it to the people. It wasn’t about just himself and God, it was all about obeying and taking it to the world!
Reflection Questions
1. What are some things you’ve been hearing from God lately? Places/people to whom he’s been pushing you? Actions to take or not to partake in?
2. Be honest with yourself and with God and decide the ways to obey.
Take the Next Step
When we look at our lives I know we all can find times when we heard, but did not obey. We have all turned away; Jonah ran from God’s call and ended up in the belly of a whale! But it requires true meditation on these calls to obey and take them seriously. Let’s pray for God’s help in truly obeying to his calls.
