Prayer of Adoration and Thanksgiving

Week 13 Day 3

18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly;
among throngs of people I will praise you.
Psalm 35:18

I love singing praise and worship songs and songs and so many are simply prayers of Adoration. Just singing and praising God for all that he is. Thus it is with prayer. We always hear prayers started with this kind of address to God that you are awesome and incredible. We can praise him for so many different things! When we look at the Our Father prayer we see this right away with “Father, hallowed be thy name.”

A part that I know I forget to often in prayers is thanksgiving. But as I sit here writing this, looking out at a beautiful lake and everything around me, I know there is never a moment where we don’t a hundred things to thank God for.

These two things, adoration and thanksgiving, while praising God, also prepare and set your hearts true for the time you’re about to spend with him. It glorifies him, humbles ourselves, and becomes a natural part of prayer.

Reflection Questions

1. How do you normally start your prayers? What does it mean to you?
2. What are some things you need to thank God for in your prayers?
3. Check out some of the Psalms (30, 32, 67). How do they speak with adoration and thanksgiving. What different things can we learn from how they pray?

Take the Next Step

Let us praise God for all his is through our prayers. Let us be thankful and tell God our thanks for all that we have been given. And be these prayers of adoration and thanksgiving be the transitioning of our hearts to the next step in our prayer lives.
