Fasting, an imperative of God for his people
Week 14 Day 4
Matthew 9:15
15Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
Then they will fast. Another time when Jesus didn’t leave this option open for debate. He told them that when he left, we will fast. We know that as we set time aside to pray and fast God is going to speak to each of us about many things. And that’s why God wants us to do it so much! When we do, he can truly work through us in new, radical ways that can expand his kingdom in only ways he could.
Reflection Questions
1. What is the metaphor about the bridegroom about?
2. Why is fasting such an imperative for God
3. Have you experienced the growth through fasting? How can you improve your experience?
Take the Next Step
We often think of talking to God as a one way street. But when we put him first, set time aside, and focus on our Lord and Savior, he will speak back in ways greater than any other. We obsess about talking to popular people or a certain cute boy named Nate, but we can talk to the creator of the entire universe, and He’ll talk back. What is more amazing than that?
