Philippians 4:8

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

What is praiseworthy? As much as I think Fifa 09 or Facebook is praiseworthy, it doesn’t even compare to what this passage is talking about. The pop media fast is all about giving up those things in our life that seem to compete with God for a spot in our hearts. Things that we couldn’t imagine living with out, cell phones, computers, tv, ipods, or anything material that gets so much of our attention throughout a day, is the attention of a pop-media fast. It is to give up these things, and put all that time, energy and effort towards God. Our dependence on these things over God is sad at times and God wants all of our hearts!

1. How is a pop media fast different from a food fast? How is it the same?
2. What are some things in your life that might be great things to use for a pop media fast? Some things that honestly may get more attention from you than God.

Take the Next Step

True, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy, what an amazing way to describe God. When we identify the things in our life with these qualities we can really begin to see people as God does. Let us take an honest step today in identifying the things that get more attention than God and take a break from them, and begin to learn to put God first in every aspect.
