What is Study?

Week 15 Day 2

I study my Bible as I gather apples. First, I shake the whole tree that the ripest might fall. Then I shake each limb, and when I have shaken each limb, I shake each branch and every twig. Then I look under every leaf.
Martin Luther

Study is rarely a term that we get excited about. It is associated with time we don’t want to spend, studying things we don’t want to learn, for tests we won’t ever remember our score on. But when it comes to the Bible this study is done in a completely different light.
The bible is far from a textbook, it is God’s word. This study reflects the true passion in our hearts to know God. As this Martin Luther quote describes, there is so much fruit as we dig deeper, fruit that will amaze us, teach us, and help us to live our lives here and now.

Reflection Questions

1. Is Bible study a part of your daily life? Weekly?
2. Do you get excited/enjoy reading the bible? How can you get into it better to discover this fruit that Martin Luther talks about? What are some ways/people that can help you or hold you accountable to start/continue with this spiritual discipline?

Take the Next Step

This fruit is not like earthly fruit that we know. This fruit, the word of God changes lives every minute and is the heart of our Christian faith today. You can NOT live out a true Christian life with out getting into the word and learning, studying and growing, so ma this week’s next step be to grow in new ways and discover new things in the Bible.
