Repetition in Study

Week 15 Day 3

To get the full flavor of an herb, it must be pressed between the fingers, so it is the same with the Scriptures; the more familiar they become, the more they reveal their hidden treasures and yield their indescribable riches.

— John Chrysostom, A.D. 347-407

Scripture is intended to be our rock, our guide, or textbook, and or hope for life. Don’t be complacent with not understanding something. The Bible is huge, and can be complicated, so repetition is essential, both for understanding, and for memorization so that the word of God is ingrained upon your heart. Make them familiar so they may reveal their hidden treasures and yield their indescribable riches to you.

Reflection Questions

1. What are some points of repetition? Is it something you do?
2. Find some passages that would be good to memorize, both to remember in your heart, and to know for the chance to share. (John 3:16, Romans 6:23, Philippians 4:13)

Take the Next Step

This is the most practical study and memorization you will ever do. Study and true learning requires repetition, and this is the process of changing to putting God first in all that we do. Take a simple next step today and memorize a life verse or something close to your heart.
