“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Out of all five beatitudes, this one stood out to me the most, as I find it is often overlooked. That when we mourn we will be comforted. Meaning, when we are sad, when we struggle, when we are faced with anything from loss, to rejection, tiredness, feelings of inadequacy, depression, anything we mourn over. He promises to comfort us. Do we take our sadness and pain and give it to God? Often, because we live in the culture we do, that sees sadness and mourning as weakness, we tend to devalue our emotions and not truly deal with our pain accepting God’s comfort.
Reflection
1. I want to challenge you, are there areas of pain? Hurt? Sadness? In your life that you have not valued, dealt with, or given to God? What emotions do you need to start valuing rather than pushing away? Know that God so kind, willing to jump at any chance to comfort you, so ask Him.
2. When you do mourn, where do you seek your comfort from? People? Food? Materials? What is different about these “comforters” other than seeking comfort from God?
Take the Next Step
Take five minutes in silence, and cast any cares, sadness, struggles on the Lord, for He promises to comfort you. Ask Him to show His comfort to you, and write what He shows you.
